At Timeless Sash Windows (previously known as Callaghan Sash Windows until 2016), we believe every home has a story to tell. We recently had the pleasure of helping a couple rewrite a chapter in their inherited home’s history.

The house had been in the family for some generations, and our customer’s grandmother had passed it on to them.  It is a home filled with memories and a sense of history. However. at some point previously, the original timber windows had been replaced with rather stark, uninspired aluminium frames. While practical in their day, they detracted significantly from the farmhouse’s authentic character and traditional appeal.

The new owner’s vision was clear: they wanted to reinstate the warm, classic beauty of timber sashes, bringing the farmhouse back to what it looked like in old photos. They approached us with this dream, and we were thrilled to take on the journey with them.

Survey

Our process always begins with a thorough survey, where we examine the existing structure to understand its unique characteristics. Our surveyor, Shane, discovered that the original frames were still in place. This was good news, as we now just had to make sashes to match the frames.

This also improved the overall project’s sustainability, as we didn’t need to replace entire window units, significantly reducing materials, and making the project less invasive to the structure of the home. Instead, we could focus our expertise on meticulously refurbishing the existing frames. This involved careful preparation, repair, and restoration, ensuring they were sound, stable, and ready to welcome their new timber sashes.

Custom-Made & Draught-Sealed New Sash Windows

Each window opening in an old house is unique, and this farmhouse was no exception. We pride ourselves on our ability to craft authentic timber sashes that are perfectly measured to each custom-sized opening. This bespoke approach ensures a seamless fit, not just aesthetically, but also functionally.

One of the clients key concerns, beyond aesthetics, was energy efficiency. Old homes can be notoriously draughty. This is where our innovation and commitment to quality truly shine. We integrated our Timeless Class 4 air leakage draught sealing into every sash – this is the best on the market. This advanced sealing technology dramatically reduces heat loss and eliminates unwelcome draughts, creating a far more comfortable and energy-efficient home.

All our products come with a wide palette of options:  firstly, we advsie clients on glazing possibilities from single to double and varying thicknesses, U-Values and acoustics. New sashes also have options according to the style of sash horn and the mouldings. Next, our specialist exterior joinery paint known for its durability and long-lasting finish, can be colour matched to any RAL.  Finally, the ironmongery comes in a range of finishes from polished brass to chrome.
