Roof lanterns by Timeless Sash Windows are crafted in our workshop in Co. Meath and rebuilt and installed on site to the highest standards of quality and insulation.
What is a roof lantern?
A timber roof lantern, also known commonly as a rooflight, is a stunning feature in a property, flooding the room below with natural light.
Our timber roof lanterns are each made bespoke according to the architectural drawings. Typically they are in a pyramid style with any number of rafters to support the toughened glass panels.
Roof lanterns are particularly popular in Victorian properties and extensions. Their ornate design aligns with the style of such period properties. They are visual masterpieces that create an aura of grandeur in any space. Furthermore, the symmetrical lines of the joinery provide a dramatic backdrop to the room as well as an interplay of shadow and light.
The angles of the rooflight attract light to flow in and rise above a living or dining area creating an additional feeling of height.
What is a roof lantern made of?
We create roof lanterns with timber to allow for endless details and creativity.
Unlike uPVC which is thicker and moulded, these timber counterparts and hand built. The final result is long lasting and low maintenance. Modern timber windows will not require painting for a number of years due to the quality of the exterior paint and the option to use durable timber such as Accoya.
Roof lanterns can be rectangular, square or octagonal.
Timber roof lantern case study
Timeless Sash Windows were commissioned by Lyons Kelly architecture to replace the casement windows throughout this home. In addition, we completed all the glazing in a new extension, which included a timber roof lantern and French doors.
Construction of the roof lantern was begun in a specialist area of the joinery and completed on site
