Wooden Window Frames – a Timeless Investment in Your Home
26/02/2025On 26th January 2025, a very special episode of “Room to Improve” aired on RTE1 and Timeless Sash Windows were excited to be involved.
Room to Improve
A year before, Julian Benson of “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity, had bought a rundown Victorian terraced house in Rathgar. He had a vision to create a home-away-from home for families of those with cystic fibrosis attending hospital. Cystic fibrosis is a condition that he also was born with. His charity, the Julian Benson Cystic Foundation, called it “Tranquility House”. Unfortunately the renovations to transform it into four comfortable apartments were to cost significantly more than the Foundation had raised.
Goodwill
Undeterred, and spurred on by their big goal, they asked for help in the form of goodwill from all the businesses they needed to make it a reality. Timeless Sash Windows are honoured to have been asked and delighted to be part of this project. Our role was to refurbish and restore all the old sash windows throughout the house, and the period front door.
Our fitting crews were on site in April to remove the sashes and in this case, also the frames. On mnay projects, the frames can be refurbished on site, however if the walls are being taken back, we can remove the frames also.
In the weeks that ensued, the team at our joiney near Navan in Co. Meath, removed all the glass, stripped the paint back to bare timber, and did all the necessary splice repairs. The winows then were painted with 3 coats of a water based primer system, a specialist paint for exterior joinery.
Fineo Glass
Energlaze donated the new “Fineo” glass to the project. This is a vacuum glazing that gives a very slim profile – in effect it looks like single glazing but feels like tripe glazing, with a U-value of just 0.7. We glazed all the windows at our joinery and then finish painted with a top coat. We added the Timeless draught seal system on all the windows to ensure there would be no air leakage.
Once the windows were ready, and the site was ready to receive them, our fitting crews refitted them in their original home.
Production
As the project was being televised by Coco Content on behalf of RTE 1, it was always exciting working on site with the various camera crews. Dermot Bannon was the principal architect and was on hand to see all the steps of the journey. Project manager, Brandon Duarte, oversaw the process and the JBCFF CEO, Louise Doogan made sure that everything was organised as it should be.
