18/01/2023What are your important decision making processes when you think about replacement sash windows? Is it to improve thermal efficiency and hence elevate the living conditions? Is it for aesthetics and to add value to the building?
Architecturally, if there are existing timber sash windows, these are the most pleasing and functional according to the original design. But these may be 200 years old and suited to different expectations of comfort.
Choosing replacement sash windows
To explore this dilemma, I spoke with one of our surveyors:
“We often visit properties that are asking the question whether to replace their windows. With so many years of experience in this business, we can efficiently assess the condition and design of the windows.
On the basis of this survey we can direct clients to the best course of action. This could be refurbishment of the frames and sashes with retrofitted double glazing. Alternatively, secondary glazing is sometimes the most suitable solution, and particularly popular in the UK. In areas of conservation, the only choice is to keep the original windows and we have a dedicated joinery for these. With repairs, new paint, cords, and new draught sealing, these single glazed windows can still perform exceptionally well.
We work with different glazing suppliers to offer the most up-to-date technology. Slimglaze is a very popular choice. This is slim profile krypton gas double glazing and excellent to safe guard slim profile windows. Another option is Fineo glazing which is a vacuum glazing that looks like single glazing but with 8x increased thermal efficiency.
Ultimately, our aim is to maintain the aesthetics of the property whilst giving the best interior comfort. We also balance the least maintenance with the greatest longevity. The environment too is at the heart of our business and we are proud to be working exclusively with timber, the only sustainable building material on the planet.”
When you work with Timeless Sash Windows, you will have an assigned project manager that will follow the process from beginning to end. They will measure accurately and discuss timber, paint and ironmongery choices with you. The joinery can exactly match different mouldings to keep the whole property aligned. Our work is exclusively bespoke allowing our customers full scope with regard to the final look.
